Tree Nuts

Tree nut allergies are one of the most common food allergies in children and adults.  Tree nuts can cause severe, potentially fatal, allergic reactions, and avoiding tree nuts can prove difficult because they can be found in some unexpected “hidden” places such as barbecue sauces, salad dressings, coffee, and even cold cuts. An estimated 1.8 million Americans have an allergy to tree nuts, and allergic reactions to tree nuts are the second leading causes of fatal and near-fatal reactions to foods. Some people who are allergic to peanuts are also allergic to tree nuts and vice versa.

One of the first question people ask is: What exactly is a tree nut?
