The Bay Area Allergy Advisory Board was founded in 2007 in San Francisco by award-winning food allergy expert Mireille Schwartz who has spent years advocating for the safety of children dealing with severe food allergies. Our mission is to promote education, awareness, and provide no-cost medical care & medication to families with severely allergic children nationwide. Eight foods, or “The Big 8”, account for 90 percent of all food-allergic reactions in the U.S.: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts (e.g., walnuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios, pecans), wheat, soy, fish, and shellfish.

Mireille Schwartz, Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Mireille has been allergic to fish her entire life and carries an up-to-date Epi Pen with her at all times. She was honored by Senator Mark Leno with a 2010 California State Senate Award for commitment to raising awareness, education, and advocacy on food allergy and anaphylaxis. In 2009 & 2010 Schwartz was named Honorary Chairman of FAAN’s Food Allergy Walk-A-Thon alongside Academy of Country Music Award winner and Celebrity Apprentice finalist, Trace Adkins. Our founder is the recipient of a 2009 Change Starts at Home Changemaker’s Award for outstanding advocacy for food allergic children, and The Huffington Post’s “Greatest Person of the Day” Award in July 2011. Mireille Schwartz is featured in the Discovery Channel documentary “An Emerging Epidemic: Food Allergies in America” produced by Summer Productions.
Erik Noonan, Vice President
Proud to facilitate food allergy advocacy and awareness in educational institutions on behalf of the Bay Area Allergy Advisory Board since 2011, he was educated at Hampshire College (BA, Theater & Literature), the Rijksuniversiteit ter Utrecht, and the New College of California (MA, Poetics). His working experience in schools includes program and curriculum development, administration, accreditation compliance, internal liaison, community outreach, event planning, test preparation, deanship, tutoring and counseling. As a classroom instructor trained in the historical study of literary texts and the communicative approach to language learning, he teaches both Literature and English as a Foreign Language. Erik’s poems, stories, reviews, articles and critical writings are available in various print and web periodicals, as well as the collections Stances (Bird & Beckett, 2012), Haiku d’Etat (Omerta, 2013), and Light Duty (Thaddeus, 2014). He is currently revising a book-length study of poet Paul Blackburn. An active boardmember since 2011, Erik was named BAAAB Vice President in 2013.
Dominique Crenn, Chef Advisor
Chef Dominique Crenn is a 2012 two Michelin stars chef at Atelier Crenn in San Francisco’s Cow Hollow district and two-time Michelin star chef at Luce in 2009 and 2010. Our Executive Chef boardmember focuses on cuisine as a craft and the community as an inspiration. From her beginnings in Versailles, France, to the title of Esquire Magazine’s 2008 “Chef of the Year,” combined with her hard-earned win on Food Network’s “Iron Chef America” and several appearances on Bravo TV’s “Top Chef’,” Chef Crenn has built a legitimate and solid reputation with countless food solutions both nationally and internationally.
